Why You Know What to Do… But Still Feel Stuck in the Same Body, Low Energy & Unhealthy Patterns

by | Uncategorized

Have you ever thought:

“I KNOW what I need to do… so why am I still not doing it?”

Maybe you want to lose weight, improve your health, have more energy or feel more confident in your body.

Perhaps there are other things you want to change too. Your relationships. Your boundaries. Your career. Your lifestyle.

Or maybe you simply want to feel like yourself again.

You know something needs to change. You probably even have a pretty good idea of what needs to change.

Yet somehow, you keep slipping back into the same old patterns.

You start again.

You feel motivated.

You make a plan.

And eventually, you find yourself back where you started.

So naturally, you think:

“I need more discipline.”

“I need more motivation.”

“I need to try harder.”

But what if that’s not actually what’s keeping you stuck?

What if you’ve outgrown the version of yourself you’re still trying to live as?

I Knew What to Do… So Why Was I Still Stuck?

For a long time, I thought change was about trying harder.

I was trying to lose weight, but underneath that, I was also trying to find myself again.

As I got older, I started questioning things.

Who am I now?

Why don’t the things that used to excite me feel exciting anymore?

Where am I actually going?

My body didn’t feel like me. And if I’m being completely truthful, my life didn’t entirely feel like me either.

So I tried to fix it.

And one of the first things I tried to fix was my body.

You may know the cycle…

Start Monday. Follow the diet. Be “good”. Fall off by Wednesday. Promise to start again next Monday.

I tried plenty of diets. I made plans. I educated myself about nutrition and how our bodies change as we get older.

Eventually, the frustrating thing was…

I actually DID know what to do.

Knowledge wasn’t the problem anymore.

I could make a plan, feel motivated and start making changes, but somehow I would find myself falling back into the same patterns.

And every time, I made it mean something about me.

“Maybe I’m the problem.”

“Maybe I’m not disciplined enough.”

“Maybe I’m not consistent enough.”

Eventually, I realised I was asking myself the wrong questions.

There was something deeper keeping me stuck.

And understanding that changed not only the way I approached my body and health, but my confidence and other areas of my life too.

Why Knowing What to Do Isn’t Always Enough

Knowledge absolutely matters.

But knowing and doing are two very different things.

You can know which foods support your body.

You can know that movement is good for you.

You can know you need more sleep, better boundaries or more time for yourself.

And still not follow through consistently.

Why?

Because lasting change isn’t only about knowledge.

Your beliefs, identity, priorities, environment, lifestyle and actions all need to start moving in the same direction.

When they don’t, change can feel forced.

You might be able to follow somebody else’s diet, exercise plan or perfect morning routine for a while.

But if it doesn’t fit your lifestyle, your priorities and the way you genuinely want to live, maintaining it becomes much harder.

That’s when we often blame ourselves and go looking for even more discipline.

But perhaps there’s a different question we need to ask.

Are You Trying to Create a New Life From an Old Identity?

You may consciously want to become healthier, more energetic and more confident.

Perhaps you want to prioritise yourself, set better boundaries or create a completely new direction.

But underneath those goals, you may still be carrying beliefs such as:

“I never stick to anything.”

“I have to keep everybody happy.”

“I don’t have time for myself.”

“It’s too late for me.”

“I’ve always been this way.”

Or even:

“I should be grateful for what I’ve got.”

And yes, gratitude matters.

But being grateful doesn’t mean you have to settle for something that no longer feels right for you.

You can appreciate what you have AND want more for yourself.

You may still be following old expectations, habits and roles that fitted the woman you were, but don’t necessarily fit the woman you’re becoming.

And that’s where internal conflict begins.

OLD IDENTITY → INTERNAL CONFLICT → INCONSISTENCY

One part of you wants something new.

Another part is still living according to the old rules.

So instead of asking:

“Why can’t I stick to anything?”

Try asking:

“Does what I’m trying to create actually fit who I am NOW?”

Step 1: Get Honest About What You’ve Outgrown

Real change doesn’t necessarily begin with immediately trying to fix yourself.

It begins with understanding yourself.

Start by asking:

What’s working for me right now?

What isn’t?

Which patterns keep repeating?

What have I outgrown?

Perhaps you’ve had enough of constantly starting diets, feeling tired or fighting your body.

Maybe you’re tired of hiding, comparing yourself with other women or waiting until you lose weight before allowing yourself to feel confident.

Perhaps you’re tired of people pleasing and saying yes when you desperately want to say no.

Maybe your work no longer fulfils you.

Or perhaps you’ve simply had enough of living on autopilot.

That was a big one for me.

Wake up. Do everything you’re supposed to do. Go to bed. Repeat.

At some point I started thinking:

Where is the fun? Where is the joy?

Ask yourself:

What drains me?

What feels heavy?

What am I doing because I think I SHOULD rather than because it feels right for me?

And remember:

Awareness isn’t criticism. It’s information.

You aren’t creating a list of everything that’s wrong with you.

You’re becoming aware of what no longer fits.

Step 2: Get Clear on What You Actually Want

Most of us can tell you what we don’t want.

“I don’t want to feel tired.”

“I don’t want to feel uncomfortable in my body.”

“I don’t want to keep starting over.”

But knowing what you don’t want isn’t the same as knowing what you do want.

So ask yourself:

How do I want to feel?

What kind of life do I want?

What kind of woman do I want to become?

What would make me feel alive, peaceful or fulfilled?

What do I want this next chapter of my life to look like?

Awareness shows you where you are.

Clarity shows you where you’re going.

Without a clear direction, it’s incredibly difficult to create meaningful goals or make consistent decisions.

Awareness is the beginning of change. Clarity gives that change direction.

Step 3: Understand Your Values and Your WHY

This was surprisingly powerful for me.

For years, I never really sat down and thought about my values.

To be fair, I thought values were something companies put on an office wall. 😂

But understanding my personal values made a huge difference.

Your values act like an internal compass.

Maybe you value:

Health. Freedom. Family. Adventure. Growth. Peace. Joy. Connection. Confidence.

One of my biggest values is growth.

Knowing what matters to you makes it easier to recognise whether your choices are actually moving you towards the life you want.

And remember, your values can change.

What mattered to you at 25 might not be what matters most at 45.

We change. We evolve. That’s part of reinvention.

Now Find Your Deeper WHY

Let’s say your goal is:

“I want to lose 20 pounds.”

Why?

Maybe underneath that goal is:

“I want to feel energetic and confident again.”

Perhaps you want to go out with friends without worrying about your body.

Wear clothes you love.

Travel.

Feel strong.

Stop putting your life on hold.

That’s where your emotional connection lives.

Ask yourself:

Why does this change matter to me?

What becomes possible if I make it happen?

And a powerful one:

What will it cost me if nothing changes?

Your WHY gives your goal meaning.

Your vision gives it direction.

Step 4: Create Goals That Actually Fit Your Life

Once you’re clearer about what you want and why it matters, you can start creating goals from a very different place.

Not from:

Pressure. Comparison. Guilt. “Should.”

But from:

Your values. Your priorities. Your vision.

Ask yourself:

“What would genuinely move me towards the life and woman I want to create?”

Then make it practical.

Maybe this week you:

  • Go for three walks
  • Prioritise a high-protein breakfast
  • Get to the gym twice
  • Apply for an opportunity you’ve been thinking about
  • Have a conversation you’ve been avoiding
  • Say no to something that drains you
  • Create some protected time for yourself

Your actions don’t need to be enormous.

Small aligned choices create momentum.

Step 5: Start Acting Like the Woman You’re Becoming

This is one of my favourite questions:

“What would the woman I’m becoming do?”

Instead of waiting until you’ve reached your goal to become this new version of yourself, start practising being her now.

Ask yourself:

What would she eat today?

How would she move her body?

How would she speak to herself?

How would she protect her energy?

What boundaries would she set?

What opportunity would she say yes to?

And importantly:

How would she respond to a setback?

Don’t wait until you feel like her before you start acting like her.

Every aligned choice becomes evidence:

“This is who I am now.”

And gradually:

Small Aligned Choice → Evidence → New Identity → New Results

You aren’t waiting for your future self to magically appear one day.

You’re creating her through the choices you make now.

This Is What Reinvention Means to Me

These are the changes I eventually started making in my own life.

I got clear about what I wanted and what I no longer wanted.

I understood my values.

I started making decisions that aligned with the life I actually wanted to create.

Did that suddenly make every choice easy?

Of course not.

But it gave me something incredibly important:

Direction.

And when I had direction, consistency started to feel very different.

This is what reinvention means to me.

It’s not about becoming somebody fake or completely different.

It’s about intentionally becoming more of who you want to be.

For me, this process has been part of losing over 20 pounds, rediscovering old passions, finding new ones and developing confidence that goes far beyond how my body looks.

Most importantly, I finally feel like me again.

Not the old me.

The woman I am now.

What If Your Next Chapter Felt Different?

Imagine feeling connected to yourself again.

Feeling healthier and more energetic.

Feeling confident not only in your body, but in your decisions, voice and direction.

Imagine having boundaries without drowning in guilt.

Creating habits that fit your actual life instead of constantly fighting against it.

Saying YES to what genuinely excites you.

Saying NO to what you’ve outgrown.

Making decisions from your values rather than fear, guilt, old expectations or people pleasing.

And when life inevitably knocks you off track, knowing how to come back instead of deciding you’ve failed and starting again next Monday.

When your life becomes more aligned, consistency stops feeling like such a battle.

Midlife doesn’t have to be about desperately trying to become the woman you used to be.

Perhaps it’s your opportunity to ask:

Who do I want to become now?

Your Midlife Reinvention: 5 Things to Remember

If you take five things from this, let them be these:

1. Awareness: Recognise what’s no longer working and the patterns you keep repeating.

2. Clarity: Get clear on what you’ve outgrown and what you genuinely want instead.

3. Values + WHY: Understand what matters to you now and why this change is important.

4. Direction: Turn that clarity into meaningful goals and a vision for your next chapter.

5. Identity: Start making small aligned choices as the woman you’re becoming.

You don’t need to reinvent your entire life overnight.

Start with one aligned choice. Then another. Then another.

That’s how your next version is created.
